Nathan is our Operations Director here at ATL Alarms, and you’ll find him managing engineers, surveying and quoting new projects, and designing the systems the ATL Alarms team will be implementing. Here we learn a little more about his role, his advice for working in the industry and his interests outside work.
I began as an apprentice plumber and then moved into the fire industry, specifically working on suppression systems. I then started working at Atom Technologies on a £5m CCTV project at the Bank of England, which is where I met Stuart and have been with ATL ever since.
I particularly enjoy the problem-solving aspect of my role, as no one project is ever the same.
We currently use Installer Pro but will soon upgrade to Uptik, which is a major change for us. This is a much more powerful tool; it’s a little more data hungry, but it will make our work much easier as it’ll reduce the need for another admin staff member.
We also use industry-specific manufacturers' software to install/set up different systems and help our clients use the systems that best suit their needs.
Be proactive. Contact companies directly and don’t be afraid to show that you’re keen, that you know your stuff and that you’re prepared to learn. You need to be prepared to have honest conversations about the industry and whether you will be a good fit. Make sure to back this up with having researched the industry.
A good work ethic is also vital. You need to be prepared to work hard and have a drive to learn and improve. The industry is highly rewarding for those who do.
I am a keen golfer, and I support West Ham and enjoy watching football.
We take pride in delivering cutting-edge fire safety solutions tailored to the needs of unique venues like the historic Cambridge Corn Exchange. Our recent project involved a comprehensive fire alarm system upgrade designed to go beyond basic safety compliance.

Seamus McKeon, Ark AcademyIt is without hesitation that I pen these lines in praise of ATL Alarms. Ark Academy is an all-through school serving almost 2,000 children from nursery through to sixth form and providing sports facilities, classroom and hall hire to our local community. ATL very quickly sorted out all the problems caused by our previous contractor with little to no disruption to our users and we had no hesitation in recommending them to the main contractor for the installation of the alarms in our new building.
ATL staff are without exception polite, personable and highly skilled. All appointments have been kept on time and where we have needed extra works they have gone above and beyond to ensure we always have a safe environment for our children. I am confident that when I call ATL I will be understood and will easily be able to explain what the problem is – their office staff like their engineers are knowledgeable, helpful and polite.
